While Donegal teams didn’t feature in the placings at the Northern Ireland Senior Cross Country Championships in Antrim on Saturday there were some strong individual displays.

The county was represented by Letterkenny AC and Inishowen AC for the prestigious event.

In the Senior Men’s Race Letterkenny’s Ciaran Doherty finished 23rd (39.29) overall followed by his club mate, Pauric McKinney (35th 41.08)

Former Irish marathon champion, Gary Crossan, finished in 37th place (41.24) and the fourth scorer for LAC was the ever improving Paul McGlinchey in 67th place (44.34). Annadale Striders (73) won the team title followed by  St. Malachys (80) and City of Derry ( 120).

Other Letterkenny AC competitors were: Charlie Page (71st), Barry Meehan (80), Aidan McKenna (114), Padraig Friel (117) and Noel Lynch (133)

There was a total of 136 athletes in the Seniors Mens Race. Donegal was also represented by Inishowen athletes Joe McKinney (60th– 43.50), Niall McGee (76th, 46.05), Declan Caldwell (98th, 47.39), Finbarr Gallagher (103- 48.37) and  Pat Gallagher (106, 48.55)

In the Senior Women’s Race, Fionnuala Diver (23.24 put in a terrific performance to finish 22nd overall.  She was the only Donegal competitor in the field of 52 runners and deserves great praise.
