WHAT a weekend of action and success it was for Letterkenny A.C. On Sunday Olympic Games hopeful, Maria McCambridge smashed the course record by 30 seconds in the John Treacy Dungarvan Run.

Maria, won the race in a time of 55.58 ahead of Lizzie Lee 2nd in 57.30. Meanwhile, after being selected to run for the Northern Ireland & Wales team at the McCain City Challenge, Danny Mooney, won the 800 metres at the Cardiff Celtic Cup Indoor meet (1.52) Ruairi Finnegan was third in the 1500 metres (3.48.65).

The McCain City Challenge is a Nationwide, City Team based athletics competition. Eight teams from Glasgow to London and Newcastle to Cardiff will compete across 2 League matches to fight for the title of MCC Champions 2012. This promises to be a fantastic competition and a well deserved rewarding selection for Danny.

The local action was in Lifford locally with the last of the 5k series. Well done to all our athletes. Ivan Toner (6th-16.49) led the club followed by Humphry Murphy (11th-17.28- first man over-40), Marcus McClintock (12th-17.29), Marty Gormley (15th-17.42), Joe English (18th- 18.00), Noreen McGettigan (28th-19.05 and first woman home), Kevin Toner (37th-19.41, first man Over-60), Gabriel McCrossan (53rd- 20.49) and Paul Cosgrove (66th-21.52). Well done to all. Great to see Paul Cosgrove on the road again after a troublesome injury.

Three of our club athletes made their way to Dublin for the 5 mile Raheny race. Ciaran O’Donnell (30.47), Gerard Mullan (33.01) and Richard Raymond (34.05) all put in super performances.

Ciaran was 50 seconds quicker than the 5 mile a few weeks ago in Letterkenny while Gerard and Richie shaved 15 and 25 seconds respectively off their last times for the distance.
