GAA NOTES: NAOMH BRID

Our Seniors recorded their first victory of 2012 on Sunday past with a 0-11 to 0-5 victory against Slaughtmanus from Derry in Ballyshannon. Naomh Brid started the game brightly and raced into a 3 point lead which helped give them the platform for victory. The lads went in at half-time 0-6 to 0-3 ahead and with tenacious tackling and good support play they managed to hold Slaughtmanus to just 2 second half points. In the end it was a good display with good work rate from defence to attack. Naomh Brid Scorers: Pauric McDaid (0-4), Shane Walsh (0-4), Calum Gallagher (0-1), Darragh Brogan (0-1), Thomas Gallagher (0-1). The lads play Warrenpoint in Ballyshannon this Sunday with a start time of 2pm. All support would be greatly appreciated.

The club entered their first Scor contestants in a number of years, thanks to the work of Jamie Timoney, in a regional contest in Meenaneery on Friday night. First up was Bridgeen McGarrigle who represented the club well with her version of “Taimse im Chodladh” in the solo singing. Unfortunately Bridgeen didn’t make it through to the county finals. Mickey Quinn represented the club in the recitation but also failed to make it through. Conor Cassidy and Gerard Martin entered the traditional music section and made it through to the county finals of Scor. The quiz team consisting of Gerard Gallagher, Jamie Timoney and Shane Walsh competed well until the final round of questions which eventually saw them knocked out of the competition. All in all it was a great success and it is hoped that more and more people within the community can get involved in Scor in the near future to help bring that bit of Irish Culture back into the area.

There is an executive meeting this Saturday at 6pm in the clubhouse. All members are requested to attend.
