It was not to be Donegal’s night as Gaoth Dobhair singer Maria McCool finished in last place in tonight’s Irish Song Contest.

Despite a polished performance, it was clear from early on that it was not to be Maria’s night with her song Mistaken.

All of the regional judges, which accounted for half of the overall vote, gave Maria the lowest number of points.

The public voted Maria the fourth best song.

There was only one winner on the night and that was Jedward with their song Waterline.

From early on the twins scored top marks and eventually romped home to become Ireland’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku later this summer.
