Buncrana GAA Notes For Week Ending Sunday 4th March 2012

CLG Bun Crannach Dinner Dance 2012

A thoroughly enjoyable night was had by all who attended the annual dinner dance in the Inishowen Gateway on Saturday night. Congratulations must go to the player award winners including Diarmuid Porter (Minor Player of the Year), Philip Scott (Reserve Player of the Year) and Calvin Jones (Senior Player of the Year). It was a special night in particular for the club legend John Porter who received recognition for his selfless voluntary work for the club, and also for Francis Porter who was the recipient of the first Community Award to be presented by Buncrana GAA. Francis’ contribution to the community, charity fundraising and to his beloved Buncrana Hearts is second to none and he is thoroughly deserving of the award. The recipient of the Clubman of the Year award went to Owen McDaid, who’s contribution to the club for many years has been priceless. As Chairman Paul McGonigle rightly stated in his address, over the years Owen has not only provided transport but has often acted as physio, selector, umpire and even goalkeeper! The highlight on the night was the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to Sean Masterson. The award is a fitting tribute to the years of service Sean has given to GAA in Buncrana and the county. Congratulations to Sean, Helen and the Masterson family. Congratulations to all the awards winners, the organising committee and special thanks to guests Andrew Wallace and Jim McGuinness.
