SHAY – I WANT TO TAKE PENALTY AT EURO 2012

Shay Given wants to take a penalty if Ireland end up at a penalty shoot-out at Euro 2012.

The Lifford man plans to go to manager Giovanni Trapattoni and tell him of his desire to take a spot-kick.

Shay said “I’d love to do it. I haven’t been very successful saving them so maybe I should put someone else in goal and start taking a couple. I’ve experienced the downside of losing a penalty shootout against Spain.

“I didn’t get to take one but I wouldn’t fear taking one.

“I don’t know what the manager’s thoughts would be. Hopefully we do get to the knockout stages.

“And maybe it does come down to something like that and I can save a penalty this time around and perhaps maybe take one,” said Shay.
