BBC: DONEGAL CLERICAL ABUSE INVESTIGATION IS ‘HARROWING’ – NEW EVIDENCE ON SCANDAL

A TV investigation to be broadcast tonight will hear ‘harrowing’ stories from clerical sex abuse survivors in Co Donegal – and will unearth new scandals, the BBC said today.

Reporter Darragh MacIntyre (pictured) will interview victims of notorious paedophile priest Father Eugene Greene and examine how he was allowed to continue to abuse dozens of boys over a 30-year period.

The scandal in the Raphoe Diocese will be examined in detail, as well as other cases throughout Ireland.

A BBC spokesman confirmed: “Darragh MacIntyre investigates the failure of the church to deal with abusing priests in Ireland.

“As he travels around the country he hears harrowing stories from victims of clerical abuse, and uncovers new evidence that shows the scandal is far from ended – and that it reaches the very top of the Catholic Church in Ireland.”

MacIntyre is no stranger to Co Donegal, having lived in Gortahork for a number of years.

His previous investigations in Raphoe for the BBC has unearthed shocking allegations.

It’s understood new allegations will be made tonight about senior Catholic clergy in Ireland and the Vatican’s attempts to cover it up.

A report released last November identified 14 priests in Raphoe and 20 in the Derry Diocese who had allegations made against them over a 30-year period.
