Termon GAA Notes: Week Ending 07/05/12

Comortas Peile Na Gaeltachta

The club enjoyed a very successful  weekend at the County Gaeltachts finals in Gweedore. Our Ladies got the ball rolling on Sunday with an excellent display against county Senior Champions Glenfin. A 5 goal salvo from who else but Geraldine McLaughlin helped pave the way for a Termon win with Roisin and Olive McCafferty having excellent hours on the half forward line.

The senior men then ground out an excellent result in the junior semi final despite the loss of Jamie Gallagher, Paddy McDaid and Kevin McDaid to injury through the game. Indeed at the end of extra time Termon had 5 minors on the field and had eked out a one point victory. The final on Monday was a tense affair in tough conditions but a goal of sheer persistence from Aidan Sweeney along with some great score taking in the second half ensured Termon took the county title. Daniel Conaghan and Andrew Duffy with excellent second half performances. Well done to all involved and the club look forward to returning to Gweedore in June for the All Ireland competitions. Special thanks to John McCafferty at the Lagoon for the breakfasts for the players each morning of the games.

Minor Board:

This Saturday morning we have one of the top underage coaches in Ulster Ben Mc Guckian, coming to attend our coaching session so we hope parents will make a special effort to bring all the boys and girls along. The times will change slightly so that we can maximise the time Ben will have to spend with the coaches and the various teams. So for this Saturday the following times are in place, U6s and U8s boys and girls and U10 and U12 girls will be on from 10.15am to 11.30am. Then from 11.30 to 12.45pm we will have U10 boys and u14 girls. We ask all coaches to be at the Burn Road at 10am for a briefing before the coaching begins. Again we hope parents will make that extra effort this Saturday to bring thier children along at the time listed for thier childs age group. The first U8 blitz of 2012 is due to take place next weekend (19th) in Dunfanaghy, more details next week. The following weekend the U10 boys begin thier season and more details will be given at coaching.

Anyone still wishing to register thier child for the 2012 season can do so by contacting Eddie harkin on 086 6082512.

Ladies Board:
The junior ladies continued their good start to the season with a hard fought draw against Gweedore last Wednesday in a fantastic game of football. Aileen McGlynn and Tara McDaid were best for Termon. The Senior ladies are away to St Eunans at 12 noon this Sunday.

Mens Board:

Our reserves and seniors are fixed to play Glencolumbcille this Sunday at 1.30 and 3.00 in the all county league.

The club wishes Jamie Gallagher all the best in his recovery from a shoulder injury received in the semi final against St Nauls on Sunday last. Jamie will be out of action sadly for 2-3 months. Get well soon Clouter!

Lotto:

The Lotto draw took place in the Glenveagh Inn on Friday last. The numbers drawn were 6,8,13 and 23. Pat McCaffertys luck was in as she matched all 4 numbers to win the jackpot of €2300. Next week’s draw takes place in The Lagoon, Termon. Martin Friel and Gerard Grant are the coordinators. The jackpot is now €500.

Burn Road Timetable

All managers are to take note of the calendar for the use of the Burn Road now in place at the Dressing Rooms. Any additional trainings and games times are to be cleared with Martin Friel. This is to ensure the pitch isn’t double booked in the busy weeks and months ahead.  A new planner will go up this week for the month of May.

Sympathies

The club wishes to extend its sympathies to the family of Paddy Ward, Fintown, who died last week. Paddy was grandfather of senior ladies footballers Anne Marie and Deirdre McDaid. Ar dheis de go raibh a anam.
