Retirement of Nurse Anne Wauchope
The community of Raphoe recently bade a sad farewell to its diligent and considerate Community Nurse, Anne Wauchope, who has retired after 32 years of caring. Anne, a native of Raphoe and who attended school locally might never have imagined in her student days that she would one day be back in her own community as a Nurse.
Anne joined the Community Nursing Service in the early 1970s as a newly qualified Midwife. During that time she worked with many fine health care professionals, including two from the ‘old school’- the late Dr. Quinn of Raphoe and the late Dr. Coyne of Lifford. She would have acquired a lot of knowledge from those two esteemed doctors at a time when the modern technology of today wasn’t as prevalent.
In those early days Anne would have carried out her caring duties over and above the call of duty, a dedicated approach that remained with her over many years until her recent retirement.
Anne was and is a dedicated mother to five daughters, three of whom are now qualified doctors, obviously influenced and guided by their mother’s caring qualities.
The communities of Raphoe and the surrounding districts will certainly miss her sensitive, understanding and friendly manner and her commitment to treating each and every patient with dignity and respect. Anne joins her colleague Community Nurse Ann Gallagher, Lifford who also retired recently.
Anne is enjoying her retirement with her husband Thomas although she will be keeping busy acquiring new skills as a farmer! She will no doubt also involve herself in community activities and has already committed herself to supporting Raphoe Meals-on-Wheels as well as with the Lifford Community Hospital Patients Comfort Fund.
