The bottle bank at the back of Dunnes Stores has nine different banks.
However users were this morning forced to take their bottles home with them after finding the banks stuffed to overloading.
Other people who used the banks over the Bank Holiday Weekend were not so civic-minded.
Many just left hundreds of bottles and cans in bags and crates outside the bottle banks leaving a huge mess.
Many of the bottles had smashed leaving glass spread all around the car park.
Paddy McMenamin, a pensioner from Glencar, who regularly uses the bottle bank, said he was disgusted after finding the mess this morning.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I pulled up this morning to empty a couple of wine bottles and some beers cans.
“All the banks apart from the two dark glass banks were completely stuffed up to the top.
“It ended up that people were just dumping their bags and boxes of bottles on the ground in front of the banks. It was a real mess.
“I can’t understand why these banks were allowed to overflow like this. I would like to know when was the last time they were emptied?
“These banks are very big and they didn’t just fill up overnight.
“It just looks very bad that this mess has been allowed to build up. It also puts people off bringing their bottles and cans for recycling.
“I have no doubt that a lot of people who pulled up to empty their bottles wouldn’t have bothered because the banks were full and because of the mess,” he said.
