Buncrana GAA Notes For Week Ending Sunday 1st July

Good Luck: We would like to take this opportunity to wish good luck to Ryan and the entire Donegal Senior squad for this weekend’s Ulter Semi-Final against Tyrone. Best of luck lads and here’s hoping for a repeat of last years performance.
Senior Football: In a wet and windy Scarvey on Saturday evening, Buncrana faced local rivals and Division 3 league leaders Carndonagh in what proved to be a closely contested battle. Buncrana fielded and alternative line-up from previous outings as midfielders Ryan Bradley (county commitments) Odhran Doherty (suspension) John Doherty and Noel O’Donnell were absent. Carndonagh started brightly with Garbhan McGrenra and Richard Cunningham to the fore. The visitors registered the first score of the game after 3 minutes. The home side began to settle into the game, with the runs of Adrian Doherty and Ryan Curran causing problems for the visitors. Scores from Adrian Doherty and Oisin Doherty brought the home side level with Carndonagh, and a further score from Ciaran McNicholls brought Buncrana into the lead. It was nip and tuck between the two sides throughout the first half, however the visitors went in at half-time with a two point lead. HT Buncrana 0-3 Carndonagh 0-5
Buncrana responded from the off in the second half with a good team move being finished off by Oisin Doherty. Buncrana began to dominate play with Coalan McCann and Kevin O’Loughlin performing well in midfield, breaking up play and winning possession. A long range score from young midfielder Kevin O’Loughlin put Buncrana one point in the lead. The introduction of Paul McGonigle in the second half added another attacking option for Buncrana, with the full forward winning position from a long ball and converting for a point. A free and a further point by Oisin Doherty put further distance between the sides and Buncrana will be delighted to have held on for a valuable two points. FT Buncrana 0-10 Carndonagh 0-8
Rory Kelly, Michael Gallagher, Simon McGrory, Calvin Jones, Christopher McDermott, Ronan Doherty, Adrian McColgan, Caolan McCann, Kevin O’Loughlin,
Ronan Doherty, Oisin Doherty (0-4), Adrian Doherty (0-2), Ryan Curran, Kevin Treacy (0-1), Ciaran McNicholls (0-1) Subs: Paul McGonigle (0-2)
Senior Reserve Football: Buncrana 3-4  Carndonagh 2-6
An understrength Buncrana reserve team had a hard fought victory over Carn reserves in the Scarvey on Saturday evening. Buncrana started brightly with two excellent points from midfielder Stephen Nelson. Carn fought back with two goals and a point before Paul Hegarty scored a goal for the home side. Then Carn got a point. In the best move of the match Kevin McColgan crashed the ball into the roof of the net after great work by James Wallace and Philip Harkin to leave Buncrana a point ahead at half-time.
Carn came out strong at the start of the second half scoring 3 points to leave them 2 ahead with 10 minutes remaining. A great save from a penalty by Graeme Doherty kept the home team in the game. With 5 minutes left Paul hegarty punched a high ball into the net for his second goal of the game, then his uncle, veteran Finn Hegarty scored a point. Carn scored a late point but Buncrana held on for the victory. Best for Buncran were Philip Harkin, John Cassidy and Patrick Duffy.
Scorers Paul Hegarty 2-0, Kevin McColgan 1-1, Stephen Nelson 0-2, Finn Hegarty 0-1
