Lagan Harps FC are celebrating this evening after their Under 14 Girls team booked their place in the FAI Umbro National Under 14 Challenge Cup final after they overcame Freebooters FC(Kilkenny)on penalties at Orchard Park, Manorcunningham.
In front of a large crowd and played in perfect conditions Lagan had the upper hand in the first half but found themselves a goal down going in at the break. Freebooters striker Lauren Valentine with a simple tap in on 32 minutes.
But to Lagan’s credit they never threw in the towel are were rewarded with an equaliser midway through the second half thanks to a goal from Orla Friel.
Both teams pushed for a winner but to no avail and after extra time also couldn’t separate the teams it was down to a penalty shoot out were the home side managed by Brid McGinty advanced to play either Shelbourne FC(Dublin)or Gurteen Celtic(Sligo) in the final.
Lagan, who have won the Donegal Under 14 League and Cup, will be hoping for a treble in a few weeks time.
