A participant in last weekend’s Coastal Cancer Challenge had to be plucked from a Donegal mountainside.
The runner collapsed with exhaustion and had to be taken from Muckish by members of the Rescue 118 helicopter team and taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.
The runner had been tended to by members of the Donegal Mountain Rescue team and marshals attending the event.
The teams were concerned that the runner’s vital signs were started to deteriorate.
A decision was made to alert the helicopter service based in Sligo which was scrambled within just a few minutes.
Between them they managed to get the runner down a steep section of mountainside to rendezvous with the Search and Rescue chopper.
The runner was lifted from the mountainside within seconds and is understood to have made a full recovery at Letterkenny General Hospital.
