DONEGAL MAN’S EMOTIONAL POEM FOR HIS LATE MUM

JOHN O’DONNELL is well known throughout the county.

He is known for his poems and writings – and has had a huge following after revealing earlier this year that he had been adopted and found his birth mother 55 years after his search began.

Last Friday the dear mother from Churchill who adopted John passed away.

He read this poem at her graveside on Sunday. And he has asked us to publish the tribute.

DEDICATED TO MY MOTHER SARAH O DONNELL

1920 -2012

Awake but I’m dreaming, I sleep but don’t rest,

My heart is still beating, but lies broken inside my chest,

Feet on the ground and still falling,

I am brave but I fear, I rejoice yet I feel so sad,

You’re still missed so much down here.

******

Send me a letter from heaven, tell me about your place,

Paint me a view from your window,

Are the streets made of gold like they say?

Can you reach out and touch the hand, of the man above every day,

Send me a letter from heaven to read today,

******

I cry out but its muted, I can hear but there is no sound,

I can see but it’s dark outside, though the sun is still shining down,

I’m healthy but homesick, I’m still young but feel old,

I’m numb but still feel the pain, Mum I just cant let you go.

*******

Send me a letter from heaven, tell me about your place,

Paint me a view from your window,

Are the streets made of gold like they say,

Can you reach out and touch the hand, of the man above every day,

Send me a letter from heaven to read today.

******

My ears miss your voice, my eyes miss your face,

My skin misses your touch,

Mum the whole world misses your grace,

I’m still sad but rejoicing, I still ask why but don’t know,

Tears still fill my eyes from time to time,

I just try not to let them show,

I’m still tired but rest easy, I have been hurt but I’m strong,

I still feel lost at times but I know I’ll find, a little faith to carry on.

******

Send me a letter from heaven, tell me about your place,

Paint me a view from your window,

Are the streets made of gold like they say,

Can you reach out and touch the hand, of the man above every day,

Send me a letter from heaven to read today,

I need a letter from heaven from you today

*******

I LOVE YOU MUM  SLEEP SOUNDLY UNTIL WE MEET

YOUR LOVIN SON JOHN
