JOE McHugh may have been summonsed to Mayo for a party think tank – but he made sure the locals knew where he stood for Sunday week’s All-Ireland final.
Challenged to a dander up the famous Croagh Patrick, the Donegal TD was more than up to the task
And when he got to the summit, he couldn’t believe it when he found a Donegal flag there!
“I climbed Croagh Patrick on Tuesday morning, and when I got to the top I saw the Donegal flag at half mast – it had been pulled down by either the wind or the hand of a Mayo fan!
“Obviously another Donegal fan got there before me! I’d like to assure the Donegal people that I reinstated it to its rightful place, flying proudly over Mayo. Up Donegal!”, he said.
He made sure everyone at the Westport conference got to hear that a Donegal flag was now proudly displayed over Mayo after his 6am climb to the summit.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny may be his boss from the county, but Joe says he’ll show him whose the footballing boss on Sunday week.
“Let’s just say I enjoyed the trip up Croagh Patrick and that my boss (The Taoiseach) knows about it,” laughed Joe.
