The battle lines have been drawn in the McGowan household ahead of this Sunday’s All-Ireland Football Final between Donegal and Mayo.
So intense is the rivalry that mum Karen and dad Eoin have even drawn a line down the middle of the sitting room in Crossmolina, Co Mayo which either can’t cross.
Eoin is a native of Bundoran and Karen is a proud Mayo woman and originally from Ballina.
Even the couple’s three daughters Laura, 21, Laoise, 5, and Meadbh, six months, have been encouraged to pick their sides.
Laoise has opted for Mayo while Meadbh has chosen to side with daddy and choose Donegal
Eoin, 34, said wife Karen’s fanatical footballing family are trying everything in the book to get him to support Mayo.
“The craic is great. I don’t think I have taken off the Donegal jersey for a week.
“I’ve put Donegal flags all around the house just to annoy them,” he said.
The family, like many thousands of others, haven’t managed to get tickets for Sunday’s game.
But Eoin, who works in the Hollister medical equipment company, says they are going to make a real family day out of it.
“The sitting room will be divided and once Donegal win I’ll probably be thrown out in the street.
“I’ll travel to Donegal for the homecoming if they win and I’ll celebrate with Mayo if they win here – but I will wear my Donegal jersey,” he said.
