On Saturday last in perfect conditions in Mc Cumhaill Park, Ballybofey Aodh Ruadh the holders and Buncrana renewed their rivalry in the replay of the under 16 championship final, like the original fixture this was a close hard fought encounter.

This was the third meeting between the two leading clubs in the county at this age group, Buncrana won the league final. Aodh Ruadh opened the scoring with two points but Buncrana replied with a goal, it was nip and tuck up till half time and the Erne siders led by the minium at the break on a score line of 0.6 to 1.2. The second half was full of great hurling, both sides showed great passion and commitment , these two clubs have shared the last 4 under 14 county titles between them and this game was another classic encounter. Buncrana got another goal early in the second half but Aodh Ruadh’s ability to score long range points was the difference between the two sides. There was good support from both sides who saw some great hurling being played by both teams, Aodh Ruadh ran out winners 0.14 to 2.6 ensuring that the under 16 championship title remained in Balyshannon.

After the game Donegal Hurling Board Chairman Donal Mc Laughlin presented the trophy to the victorious Aodh Ruadh captain Colm Kelly who thanked Buncrana for a hard fought game.
