MALIN Head coast guard officers have once again coordinated a daring night time rescue – this time on Lough Swilly.
Paul and Jeanette McLaughlin, their son Gary (8) and his friend were stranded on the Lough on Sunday night after the power on their speedboat failed.
Coast Guard officers were able to coordinate a rescue led by the RNLI which took the family to safety.
“The group were drifting on the lough and a full rescue operation was launched,” said a spokesman.
“Thankfully the RNLI crew were able to locate the family and bring them to safety.”
The latest rescue comes as the station – which saves hundreds of lives every year – has been left in limbo amid fears the Government will close it down and transfer all rescue services to Dublin.
