Inishowen Sinn Féin councillor Jack Murray has expressed concern that some Donegal GPs are charging medical card holders for blood tests.

Cllr Murray said that he received confirmation from Donegal’s Area Manager for the HSE that medical card holders are entitled to blood tests for free.

Cllr Murray said “I have been contacted by a number of medical card holders in Inishowen who were charged €10 by their GP for a blood test. I have also heard reports of this happening elsewhere in Donegal.

“Upon looking into this, I subsequently received confirmation for Donegal’s HSE Area Manager that medical card holders and GP visit card holders are entitled to these tests for free, as part of a clinical investigation into their symptoms.

“Anyone who is concerned that they are being wrongly charged for this service should feel free to contact me and I will contact the HSE on their behalf.”
