GRANDPARENTS ASK FOR PRIVACY TO GRIEVE FOR LOST BOYS

DONEGAL grandparents who lost their two grandsons to Superstorm Sandy in New York will attend a private Mass today to remember them.

Pat and Fay Moore from Loughfad, Portnoo, will attend the service at St Conal’s Church in Kilclooney at 11am.

Hundreds are expected to attend the Mass to remember brothers Connor, 4 and Brandon, 2, who were swept away from their mother Glenda’s arms near Staten Island.

However in a statement the family thanked the media but asked them to stay away from today’s Mass as the boys’ elderly grandparents want to grieve in private.

The boys’ Donegal-born father Damien, 39, was out helping other victims of the storm when his sons disappeared.

The boys grandparents Pat and Fay are too elderly to make the journey to America so today’s Mass has been arranged to coincide with the boys funeral in New York.

Local priest Fr Philip Daly said the community in Portnoo has rallied to be by the sides of the Moore family since the awful tragedy.

“Pat and Fay could not get to America for various reasons but we thought we needed to mark the occasion in some way and hopefully this will help comfort them.

“All we can do for them is to be here for them and to support them as best we can at this trying time,” he said.
