Cockhill Colts 0-2 Redcastle Res

The colts were unlucky in the second minute of the game after Tommy Doherty fed Stephen Porter on the edge of the area but his effort crashed off the bar.Redcastle settled and took the lead in their first attack when Greeg Breslin released Stephen McCauley and he fired low past Liam Lynch from close range.Midway through the half they increased their lead when Greg Breslin ran onto an Aiden Cunningham through ball to fire past Lynch.Cockhill started the second period well and were out of luck again when Seamus Gill crossed to Gary Breslin but his header rebounded off the bar.Cockhill dominated possession but failed to trouble Ryan McCole or create clear openings.Latre on in a quick break Redcastle’s Michael Bonner raced clear but fired wide when well placed.

Rovers dominated this game for long periods against a young Illies side who had a few chances.The home side got a dream start when Vincent Brennan converted a penalty awarded in the second minute after Eamon Doherty had been upended.They continued to press and a looping Fergal Doherty effort, a long range Mark Gilmore shot and a scuffed Brendan Grant shot were all off target.Midway through the half Illies Martin Coyle broke clear but hit his shot early and it was well off target. Rasheeny replied and doubled their lead when keeper Thomas Grant advanced out wide to clear but his clearance was collected by Anthony McEleney and he fired to the unguarded net from distance.On 37 minutes a corner from the left found Fergal Doherty and when his shot was deflected it fell kindly to Ramon Reidy to slot home.Illies replied on the stroke of half time when Charlie McLaughlin and Coyle played a neat one two but Mclaughlin’s effort was off target.In the opening minute of the second half Brendan Grant had an effort tipped onto the bar by keeper Grant.In the next attack George Doherty fed Grant and he fired home from sixteen yards. Grant got another ten minute alter when he raced onto a ball over the top to fire home from the edge of the area and make it five.Substitute Ryan Gill then added two goals on his introduction the first when he ran onto a Paul McConalogue pass to drill home from sixteen yards. The second arrived after his initial shot was parried by Grant but hemanaged to squeeze the rebound home.Illies kept pressing and Jamie McCarron had an effort saved by Declan Grant. In an amazing escape on 81 minutes the visitors had three chances to score. Mccarron saw his effort saved by Grant and when the rebound fell to Stephen McGonigle his effort hit the bar before Charlie Mclaughlin’s second rebound flew wide.The final chance fell to the home side but Mark Gilmore’s point blank effort was brilliantly saved by Grant.

Dunree got a dream start on 2 minutes when a corner fell to james Doherty and he fired past Seamus Bovaird from six yards.Minutes later Thomas Doherty raced onto a ball over the top to lob Bovaird and double the elad.Greencastle battled back and reduced the deficit when Cathal Kelly raced onto a long ball and fired low past Philip Doherty in the home goal.But Dunree upped the pace and added another midway through the half when Thomas Doherty’s free eluded all and nestled in the bottom corner.They made it four one before the interval when Emmet Dunphy fed Constantin Bamica and he crossed for Joe Carlin to head home.Any chance of a comeback was quelled on 50 minutes after Johnny Lynch fed Dunphy and he slotted low past Bovaird.Carlin then got his second of the game with a superb finish from the edge of the area.Greencastle kept battling and got a goal back when Daniel Rowan released Dean McGeoghaghan to fire past Doherty.But Dunree finished strongly and paddy Toland converted from close range after good approach play by David Eccles. Carlin then got his hat trick when substitute John Doherty sent him clear to fire low past Bovaird.The visitors misery was complete when Mcgeoghaghan weas red carded late on for an off the ball incident.
