The body of the woman, who was in her 50s, was found in the flat at Lower Main Street this morning.

A Garda forensics team are examining the scene.

It is understood from local reports that the woman is a mother of three who is originally from the Fanad area.

Garda Superintendent Eugene McGovern told Donegal Daily that they will not know the cause of death until Monday.

“The body has been removed to Letterkenny General Hospital and the local pathologist will carry out a post mortem on Monday to determine the cause of death.

“The forensic team have now completed their examination and have moved out of the location,” he said.

One eye-witness told Donegal Daily that there was a lot of Garda activity in the area this morning.

“There was a lot of people coming and going including Gardai.

“Some of them had masks on. All we have heard is that a woman’s body has been found,” said one woman.
