On Saturday 20th of April the Donegal North-East branch of Young Fine Gael held its Annual General Meeting in Deputy Joe McHugh’s constituency office Lower Main Street, Letterkenny.

Outgoing Chairperson David McLaughlin opened the meeting with the past years highlights, including but not limited to branch support of the G.R.A.S.P life foundation, an organization dedicated to suicide prevention and the recent success of the launch of its Iphone and Android app. This smartphone app will hopefully provide essential information and advice more accessible to those in need.

Next to be highlighted was the great success of the fundraising table quiz organized for the Donegal donkey sanctuary which contributed to ongoing endeavors in the prevention of cruelty and maltreatment.

Our guest speaker for the night, Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh commended the branch on their work this past year and spoke of the importance of youth involvement in politics and his own experience in the Letterkenny Town Council, passing on valuable insight and advice to those in attendance.

Following the guest speech was the election of the new committee for 2013/2014:

Chairperson: David McLaughlin (Returned)

Vice-Chairperson: Leah Kavanagh

Secretary: Rory Sweeney

Treasurer: Aaron Sweeney

P.R.O: Fionán Lynch

Membership Officer: Colleen Kearney

The positions of Assistant Secretary and Policy Officer remain open and will be considered at the next branch meeting, expected to be centered on addressing continued problems with SUSI, the new centralized student assistance fund.

If there are any particular issues you are concerned about why not come along to our next branch meeting? We can also be reached via email, facebook and twitter.
