Buncrana Town Cllr Ciaran McLaughlin said he is delighted that the CEO of Donegal VEC has taken a personal interest in the Aghilly Road saga in Buncrana.

Mr Shaun Purcell has agreed to revisit the Aghilly site again on the basis of road upgrading being co funded by the local councils and Department of Education and Skills.

Cllr Ciaran McLaughlin just this week delivered a petition to Buncrana Town Council in which he canvassed five housing estates on the Aghilly Road.

Sinn Fein Cllr McLaughlin said “I welcome my colleagues deputy Padraig MacLochlainn and Cllr Jack Murray who raised these issues of the school campus.

He added it now gives new hope for Aghilly Road upgrade, the possibility of co funding from both councils and the Department of Education is long overdue.

Cllr McLaughlin concluded “This road would not be acceptable in Dublin and it won’t be acceptable in Buncrana either ”

Hundreds of residents have spoken and signed the petition and they want a road delivered as it is now 13 years and counting

“I have great faith in Shaun Purcell and I believe he is the man to deliver these projects for Buncrana.”
