Donegal’s politicians will be getting into the driving seat this Friday as they participate in the “Donegal’s Best at the Driving Test” competition, one of the events taking place as part of the Swilly Group Relay for Life Fun Day.L plate

A large crowd is expected on the day with the “Battle of the Politician” attracting a lot of attention and some heavy betting at the bookies.

Already confirmed are Padraig MacLochlainn TD Sinn Fein, Joe McHugh TD Fine Gael, Charlie McConalogue TD Fianna Fail, Dr James McDaid former TD Fianna Fail and Dessie Larkin Fianna Fail County Councillor and Letterkenny Town Mayor.

Add to this, representatives of some of Donegal’s leading businesses with such people as Enda Nichols of Arena 7 with more adding their names to the bill. Entries are still being taken for all events on the day.

A renowned Donegal political commentator has said that not for many years have we seen candidates of such calibre going head to head for a single prize, this is no 5 seat constituency!!

The Swilly Group have decided to put up a separate award for Donegal’s best Political Driver, one of Mary’s homemade Sheppard’s pies. But we’re sure the entrants will be hungry to take home both the overall and political award.

As part of a fund raising day, the staff and students of the Letterkenny based training company, the Swilly Group, are running what promises to be an action packed “Relay for Life” fun day on Friday 10th May from 10am to 4pm. Everyone is welcome on the day and invited to participate in one of the 5 events taking place.

As well as the driving test event, there will be 4 other events taking place on the day to help raise funds for the Relay for Life cause. The Swilly Group team will be operating the “Drive me Crazy” obstacle course to the rear of the building.

Participants will get an opportunity to demonstrate their driving skills inside a closed environment and receive an overall score for their efforts. This event may provide the definitive answer to the questions “Are women really better drivers than the men”?

The Swilly Group will have a number of their driving school dual controlled Lorries available on the day if you want to have a go at driving a lorry. This will be in an enclosed area under the supervision of one of their senior ADIs.

You can also have your car washed and a basic check done on the fluid levels. At 1pm there will be a charity walk leaving the Swilly Group Building up business park road, down by the hospital, down DeValera Road, past Oatfield, up Gortlee and back to the Swilly Group Building. The walk will last around 30 minutes and is just less than 3 km (mostly downhill).

Tea Coffee and Scones, kindly prepared and served by the students from the Swilly Group Healthcare and Childcare courses, will be served all day as the events are taking place.

If you would like to participate in any of the events, come a long on the day and you will not be disappointed. For pre booking call the Swilly Group offices on (074) 91 51212 or email Karl at karl@swillygroup.com. As Noel would say himself “Don’t say you weren’t tould”!
