CUP WINNERS: ILLISTRIN

LETTERKENNY & DISTRICT DIVISION

UNDER 16 PREMIER CUP FINAL

CARR DRIVES HIS TEAM TO VICTORY

Letterkenny Rovers 1 – 2 Illistrin United (aet)

Letterkenny Rovers tasted defeat for the first time this season when at Dry Arch Park,

Illistrin United defended brilliantly to secure their first ever under 16 cup. The underdogs took an early lead when a cross from Harper was controlled on his chest by Kyle Keenan who in the presence of three Rovers defenders swiveled and vollied to the net.

Champions Letterkenny had waves and waves of attacks but to no avail. With 14 mins remaining, the Rovers equalised when a good shot from McPherson was parried out by Carr only to the feet of Simon McGlynn who scored with his second time of asking.

Only for the saves of Rory Carr this cup would have been Letterkenny’s. In a rare attack two minutes from the end of extra time Conor O’Grady crossed and Darragh Harper sneaked in at the back post to head home and secure the Cup for Illistrin United.

No one could begrudge their Manager Pat Carr who is involved with the club since it was formed.

Best for Letterkenny — Keiran McPherson, Simon McGlynn and Ciaran Kelly

Best for Bonagee —– Lee Doherty, Paul Ferry and Kyle Keenan

Player of the match – Rory Carr
