Moville Celtic 4-3 Rasheney FC

This was a topsy turvy encounter in which Rasheney led two nil at the break but a brace apiece from experienced strikers Joe Doherty and Nigel Mc Monagle saved Moville blushes.Moville started well with McMonagle firing across goal and wide before Raymond Campbell’s header was saved by Johnathan Noone and Tony Boyce headed a Darryl Doherty cross wide.Somewaht against the run of play Rasheney opened the scoring when John Mclaughlin collected a poor clearance and drilled a low shot past Sean McGuinness from sixteen yards.Aaron Friel then had a long range effort saved by McGuinness before at the other end Boyce’s first time shot was brilliantly saved by Noone.Rasheney responded and doubled their lead when McLaughlin’s free was parried by McGuinness and Ryan Doherty was on hand to slot home. They almost added a third when McLaughlin’s free was cleared off the line by Graeme Doherty to Ryan Doherty whose twenty yards effort crashed off the bar. Before the break Movilel went close when Boyce fed McMonagle but his angled effort went past the far post. Moville came flying out of the blocks on the restart with Joe Doherty heading down for Dermot Harkin but his effort from twenty two yards was well held by Noone. They got a goal back on 49 minutes when Joe Doherty fed Tony Boyce who beat the offside trap to advance and square for McMonagle to slide home. Rasheney responded and almost restored their two goal cushion when McLaughlin and Friel combined for the former to cross for Damien Friel whose near post header flew inches wide. The home side replied and on the hour levelled when Darryl Doherty’s cross found Joe Doherty to sidefoot home from six yards. At the other end Rasheney had another chance but substitute John Grant’s effort failed to trouble McGuinness when he was well placed.Moville took the lead on 72 minutes when McMonagle thumped a loose ball from twenty yards past Noone before minutes later Joe Doherty converted a penalty awarded after Boyce was upended. But Rasheney kept going and Mclaughlin saw a fierce angled shot well saved by McGuinness. They reduced the deficit to the minimum on 88 minutes after Mclaughlin’s low cross was converted by his brother David from close range. But try as they could they could not force extra time.

Dunree hit point for FIVE

Dunree United 5-1 QPS

Having drawn here two weeks ago which saw the point lift the league title Dunree stormed into the final with this deserved victory. The home side staretd well and when Neil Moran crossed the ball fell to Ryan Bradley whose effort deflected away off a defender. They then took the lead on 18 minutes when Liam Baldrick converted a penalty awarded for handball. They doubled their lead on 36 minutes after Sean Doherty fed Conor McBride who beat his man and unleashed a powerful twenty yards effort past Conor McColgan. The point started the second half well with Dean Barron having an early shot turned round the post by Paul McGettigan.Dunree hit back and McBride’s corner was headed onto the bar by Daniel McLaughlin on 52 minutes. The visitors got a goal back then on 64 minutes when Stephen McCarron’s cross was headed home by Oisin McCool. But all thoughts of a comeback were dispelled six minutes later when Baldrick broke on the right and crossed for McLaughlin to slide the ball home.Barron then had another snapshot well turned round by McGettigan but on 75 minutes Daniel McLaughlin robbed a defender and raced clear to slot home. They completed the scoring on 86 minutes when substitute Bernard Doherty fired a superb twenty five yards effort to the top corner.
