Donegal Bay Cycling Club is holding a Family Fun Day this Sunday, June 16.
The event starts in the Diamond in Donegal Town at 3pm where a range of activities and entertainment, including face painting, slow bicycle races, bike maintenance and cycling skills demonstrations, will be provided.
A 10km (6mile) cycle starting at the Diamond will take place at 4pm. The cycle, which will be at a slow and controlled pace, will go along Quay Street, past the Abbey Vocational School and along as far as the Tullyearl roundabout.
From there the cycle will continue along the hard shoulder of the by-pass as far as the Donegal Road (Lidl) roundabout and from there, past the hospital and along Main Street, back to the Diamond.
At the same time as the 10km cycle is taking place a cycle will take place along a 2km route for younger cyclists.
The shorter cycle will leave the Diamond by Tírchonaill Street passing by the post office, turn left at the credit union, turn left onto the Loch Eske Road (near Donegal Town Hardware) and then turn left onto the R925 (on the town side of Mc Intyres filling station) before returning to the Diamond via Bridge Street.
Light refreshments and further entertainment will be available for participants on the Diamond after the cycle. There will also be lots of free draws for cycling related prizes on the day as well as prizes for the winner of the slow bicycle event.
Entry is FREE and everyone is welcome. The cycle routes are very flat and the pace will be slow. Marshals will be present at junctions along the route. All participants must wear a helmet and ensure that their bicycle is roadworthy. Under 13’s must be accompanied by an adult on the cycle.
