The scene outside the hotel after the auction was abandoned

A small group of flag-waving protesters has forced the cancellation of a property auction at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin today.

The auction by Allsop Space was due to start at 10am but was abandoned after protestors – including anti-austerity campaigners from Donegal –

It has now been postponed until further notice.

Allsop Space says it does not know when the auction will be held again.

“It is a disgrace that homes repossessed by banks which brought this country to its knees are being auctioned here today,” said protest spokesman Tom Gilroy.

“These sort of auctions shame our nation whilst families are being forced into the street.

The Donegal protestors were among those at a Jail The Bankers protest outside the Dail yesterday.

There were scuffles with gardai during that incident.
