Four Masters: 1-12 Malin: 1-06 (BY Jim McLaughlin)
On Saturday evening as a light rain game down on Tirchonaill Park Malin met Four Masters in a Division 1 League game. The Four Masters put on a very impressive show in both games, winning by large margins.
First up was the Reserve game with Four Masters Senior Reserves galloping home. The game was very much one way traffic with a final score line of 2-18 to 0-08. The visitors admirably continued to fight on until the final whistle but the Masters Senior Reserves are a seriously strong outfit. Two excellent goals were scored in the final stages of the second half, first up was Darren Doherty, followed a short time after by Four Masters talisman, Benny Cassidy.
The Seniors game was much more of a tight contest in the first half with each team trading scores. The Four Masters took the lead with 3 points ahead, only for Malin to be awarded a penalty, which brought both teams even and the tenacious battle continued as both teams fought for dominance. A penalty was then given to Four Masters after Barry Monaghan was taken down in the box, Raymie McGroary then stepped up and stuck it in the back of the net. As the half-time whistle blew Four Masters were 1 point ahead, with a scoreline of 1-04 to Malin’s 1-03.
In the second half Emlyn Hughes’ lads really gelled together to produce some very impressive play. The second half was dominated by the Masters’ men, great passing, control of the ball and impressive point taking from play by a number of players, alongside the very accurate free taking of Dylan Ward ensured the Donegal Town men stayed ahead. Paul Durcan was brought out to put two points over from free’s. As the Masters men brimmed with confidence and worked very hard across the length of the field the lads from Malin struggled to regain a foothold.
On the final whistle, Four Masters had scored a further 8 points bringing their total to 1-12, Malin picked out three points in the second half, bringing their score to 1-06.
Al in all a very impressive evening out for the Four Masters, their disappointment at dropping out of the Championship due to scoring average has well and truly been shrugged off with this win and can only bode very well for their continued run in the League and for this formidable team going forward into the future.
