Picture exclusive: A major rescue operation ended in success last night after two women were rescued from Sliabh League.

The two elderly women form Northern Ireland, both believed to be in their 70s, got lost.

One of the ladies managed to make her way back safely after the incident which happened just after 4pm.

However the other lady found herself positioned in a precarious and dangerous situation in the area close to Eagle’s Nest and could not move.

DMRT search dog Buddy was dispatched to the area to search for the woman.

The Killybegs Coastguard Search Team located the woman and kept visual and voice contact with her until the Rescue 118 helicopter arrived.

It eventually managed to winch the woman to safety.

The woman was flown to Sligo General Hospital but is not believed to be hurt.

Members of Donegal Mountain Rescue Team along with their colleagues from Sligo and the Killybegs Coastguard Unit were also involved in the rescue.
