Organisers of the Churchill Fair pride themselves on being ready for the most unusual obstacles.

Tar is causing a few problems at Churchill Fair!

Tar is causing a few problems at Churchill Fair!

It could have been days of rain forcing them into a marquee.

Or it could have been stray animals on the day of the well-known three day event.

But not many could have forecast scorching temperatures leaving the tar on the streets of the village literally boiling up.

Things got so in Churchill yesterday that several people lost their footwear because of boiling tar.

The situation got that tricky that local volunteers were forced to spread sand on the roads.

One local explained “There was a lot of traffic going through the village and it was so hot.

“At one stage the tar was literally bubbling up form the ground. A few people lost their shoes because the tar was so stick.

“We decided the only thing we could do was to spread some sand so people would walk on it in safety,” he said.

The fair finishes today (SUN) and is well worth a visit for honest fun and a chance to catch up with old friends.
