ATHLETICS: LETTERKENNY AC NEWS

Well done to Mark English who set a new personal best time of 1:44.84 to finish in sixth place in the men’s 800m in London at the anniversary games on Friday night. Mark, who making his debut in the diamond league meetings, set off the early quick pace which saw the leaders go through the bell in 49.54 seconds. He powered powered down the finishing straight, picking off the world class athletes ahead of him, to finish in sixth place and secure the A standard for the world championships.

Brendan Boyce won gold at the national track and field championships on Sunday in the 10k walk in a time of 42:40.

Mark English, fresh from his top class run on London, placed second in the 400 metres in a time of 47:27 to Brian Murphy of Crusaders (47:14). Darren McBrearty picked up a bronze medal in the 800 metres when posting a time of 1:50.20. The was won by by Paul Robinson of St Coca’s AC in 1:48.92, with Ferrybank’s Niall Tuohy second in 1:50.03.

In the 3,000 metre steeplechase, Kieran Doherty was fourth.

Meanwhile, Ivan Toner was the winner of the Drumhalla 5K on Friday night in 16:31. Brian Crossan was second in 17:15, with Conal McCambridge of North Belfast Harriers third in 17:30. Sheila Regan on Letterkenny AC was the fastest woman home in 21;03.

The numbers drawn in the club’s weekly lotto were 16, 18 19 and 22. The four match two winners were Kenny Chambers, Pauric McKinney, Sudney Hunter and Eugene O’Donnell. This weekend’s jackpot will be 510 euro.

The club will be bag-packing in Tesco in Letterkeny on Friday and Saturday. All contributions welcome.
