BRENDAN ROACHE WINS THE LEITRIM CUP AT ROSAPENNA

The 2013 Leitrim Cup sponsored by the Pavilion Golf Shop took place over the Old Tom Morris Links over the bank holiday weekend. B.Roache.LC.Winner2013

The qualifying results were as follows:

Saturday 3rd August

1st Peter Smyth 12 with 70 nett

2nd Garvan Toye 18 with 73 nett bot

Gross Seamus Connor 5 with 79 gross

3rd Pete Gallagher 16 with 73 nett

Sunday 4th August

1st John Casey 7 with 68 nett

2nd Brendan Roache 12 with 69 nett

Gross Mick Gallagher 6 with 79 nett

3rd Denis Harkin 14 with 70 nett

The match play open draw was then as follows:  Golf 2

Denis Harkin vs Peter Smyth

Mick Gallagher vs John Casey

Pete Gallagher vs Seamus Connor

Garvan Toye vs Brendan Roache

Both the quarter & semi finals were contested over the Strand Nine.

In the first quarter final Peter Smyth overcame Denis Harkin and in the second match John Casey beat Mick Gallagher.

In the third match Seamus Conner defeated Peter Gallagher and in the last match Brendan Roache beat Garvan Toye.

In the semi finals John Casey defeated Peter Smyth and Brendan Roache beat Seamus Connor.

The traditional 18 hole final had the usual large gallery following the final pair in the oldest trophy in the club. Brendan got off to a great start and was 3 up after 3 holes and maintained a lead until the 15th hole which he would win to close the match.

The final was played in great spirit and it was great to see the crowds on the fairways in the Valley once again as this was the first time the Leitrim Cup was played over the Strand & Valley nines which opened for full play in September 2009.  Golf 3

The Friday 9 hole competition over the Strand Nine on the 2nd of Aug was won by Tommy Ferguson.

The gent’s club competition on Wednesday the 31st of July was won by Rod Geddes with 38 pts and the runner up was Johnny Martin with 28 pts.

There is a gent’s club competition over the Old Tom Morris Links every Wednesday with entries in the Pavilion Golf Shop.

The Rosapenna Open Week will begin this Friday the 9th of August and the time-sheets are now open for bookings.

All bookings are to be made via the Pavilion Golf Shop on 074-915-5000.

The presentation for all Ladies/Gents & Junior prizes will take place in the Golf Pavilion on Tuesday the 13th & Saturday the 17th at 9.30pm sharp.

Commiserations to our Barton Shield team who lost to Warrenpoint G.C in the Ulster semi final last Sunday the 4th at Shandon Park Golf Club.

Warrenpont were then beaten on tie holes in the Ulster final by a strong Clandeboye side.

Many thanks to team captain John Sweeney and to the panel of players and also the caddies that travelled to all the matches to lend their support.

Good luck to the Rosapenna Minor League team who will travel to Portsalon for the second leg of the county semi final this Thursday the 8th.   Golf 4

The home tie ended 2.5 – 2.5 with Rosapenna four holes up. Travelling support is welcome.

In the Irish Senior Cup Rosapenna play Mourne G.C in the Ulster semi final at Royal County Down next Sunday the 18th of August.

Fortwilliam G.C play Shandon Park G.C in the other semi final on the same day with the final that same afternoon.

Travelling support is welcome.

The quarter finals of the 2013 Michael Bonner Singles Match play must be completed by Monday the 2nd of August.

All third payments of the staged payment plan for 2013 Membership were due on Monday the 1st of July and must be paid as soon as possible in the Pavilion Golf Shop.

The Rosapenna Senior Scratch Match play team will host Letterkenny G.C at home on Friday the 23rd of August with the first match teeing off at 4.00pm on the Old Tom Morris Links.

This is the county semi final first leg. Support on the night is welcome.

Mr John Sweeney’s Presidents Day will take place on Saturday the 24th of August.

There will be a gents club competition on Sunday the 25th of August.

The 2013 Senior & Junior Scratch Cups will take place over both championship links on Saturday the 31st of August.

With limited entries members are encouraged to enter as soon as possible to avoiding the waiting list. Entries to the Pavilion Golf Shop on 074-915-5000 of golf@rosapenna.ie.

Any uncollected club prizes from presentation nights are available for collection from the Pavilion Golf Shop during opening hours.

PGA professional Noel Callan is available for lessons at the Rosapenna Practice Ground, his contact number is 0044-7789-157654. The Rosapenna Practice Ground is open seven days a week with a ball dispenser in operation.
