MURPHY SET TO ENROLL IN NEW ELITE ATHLETE PROGRAMME AT QUEENS

Donegal star Michael Murphy is set to enroll in a new elite athlete programme at Queen’s University Belfast.  Michael Murphy strokes over a point despite Conor Clarke's attempted block

Murphy spent four years at DCU were he completed a degree in sports science and biology.

He will be now undertaking a Masters degree in Sports psychology at Queen’s University following in the footsteps of his Donegal manager Jim McGuinness who attained a Masters in Sports Psychology from UUJ.

The Belfast college are hosting the Sigerson cup this season and were keen to land one of the best forwards in the country in Murphy.

Murphy has already tasted Sigerson success in 2012 with DCU when they won the final convincingly over NUI Maynooth.

The new elite athlete programme ensures Murphy’s tuition fees will be paid as well as his accommodation.

It will also make his commute to county training a lot easier than when he was based in Dublin.

Murphy would regularly have to travel back to Donegal for training and head straight back to Dublin that night for lectures the following morning.

Being based in Belfast now makes this regular commute a lot easier for Murphy.

It’s clear that Murphy not only has excellence on the field of play but also academic excellence off it.
