The Four Masters Reserves team recorded a good win against St Michaels in MacCumhaill Park last night.
An excellent first half performance laid the platform for the victory with every player working very hard. After conceding an early point from a 13m free kick, Four Masters took over the midfield area and possession for the remainder of the half. A good team move down the right saw Benny Cassidy slot over with scores from Daire Quinn (after a great forty metre run), Gavin Bennett (finishing off a team move with his left foot) and Kevin McBrearty (45) following. Ciaran Cassidy then scored a great goal taking the ball on the run from thirty metres from goal before blasting the ball past the keeper. St Michaels scored another free kick from forty metres out on the left. At half time the score read Four Masters 1-05 to 0-02.
A good start to the second half saw Four Masters extend their lead further points scored in the opening ten minutes. Gareth Britton scored a great point after a driving run down the middle. Emmett Doogan scored a point with the left after excellent tackling from Gavin Bennett in the corner. St Michaels to their credit never gave up and started to come into game with a number of free kicks and scores. They scored a great goal with ten minutes remaining in the game with their forward showing great composure to lob Sean Martin. This score brought them back into the game with five points bewteen the teams at this stage. With Four Masters tiring a little, St Michaels scored another point. A strong finish in the last five minutes saw Four Masters score two late points to see out the game on a scoreline 1-11 to 1-05. Overall this was an excellent team performance from Four Masters with Kevin McBrearty, Daire Quinn, and Damien Cassidy very good throughout.
