ATHLETICS – LETTERKENNY AC SENDS CONGRATS TO BRENDAN BOYCE

Well done to Brendan Boyce who clocked a new personal best of 3:54:24 in the 50K walk at the World Championships in Moscow to finish in 25th place.LETTERKENNY AC

His previous best time for the distance was 3:55:01 which he posted in the London Olympics lat year.

Speaking after the race, Brendan commented: “It’s an amazing day for Ireland. I was happy to improve on my time and placing in London.”

The race was won by Brendan’s training partner, Rob Heffernan from Cork.

This is a tremendous achievement by Brendan and is just reward for his dedication and many hours of hard work.

Ivan Toner was the winner of the Ballyare 10K road race on Friday night. Ivan’s time for what is regarded as the toughest 10K of the grand prix series, was 34:56. Second was Teresa McGloin of Finn Valley who set a new course record of 35:01, with Letterkenny AC’s Ciaran Doherty third in 35:04.

The next race on the local circuit takes place on Friday night with the staging of the Brockagh Festival 4 mile road race. The race has a 7.30 pm start. Entry fee is 10 euro.
