Glenswilly hosted a very successful summer camp for our younger generation last week. Main organisers Louise, Mary C and Karen want to thank all who helped in any way at the camp, especially all the young volunteers. Thanks to Stephen Maguire of Donegal Daily and to Dan McDaid for their generous donations. Thanks to Michael Murphy who took time out of his busy schedule to call in and make everybody’s day. Hopefully, all the children who took part, enjoyed the camp and have happy memories of the event. I’m sure all parents or guardians of the children will join with the club in thanking the main organisers for their time and hard work in making this the success it was.
Commiserations to our super third team who lost out in the Junior B Championship semi-final to neighbours Letterkenny Gaels at O’Donnell park on Sunday(25th of August). A huge effort from this gallant side of youth and experience, ranging in age from 16 to 40+. The experience gained by our youth playing in games of this level will stand to them in the future. Congratulations to Paddy and his team for getting this far. We are all proud of you lads.
It was a tough week for our underage lads. The minor team lost out to Naomh Columba in the all county semi final of the division 2 Championship last Tuesday night in Ardara. Rocked with injuries to key players and others played suffering from tonsillitis, this was and up hill struggle from the off. The lads did their best, but alas ended the year without silverware. Well done lads and management on your efforts and representing the club valiantly.
On Friday evening past our U-21 team had a championship meeting with Kilcar in Glenswilly. Our boys had to field without our own U-21 county player Leon Kelly through injury and with a talent laden kilcar side, this again was always going to be a struggle. With kilcar’s Paddy McBrearty on form on the night backed up by the McHugh duo of Ryan and Eoin, our lads lost out. However, our mix of young and older players, battled to the end with some very promising performances. Well done to all involved.
The senior boys continued on their league pursuit back to division 1 with another great victory over Dungloe on Saturday evening away. With 12 games played and 5 points clear at the top of division 2, things are looking very positive for Gary and his charges. The lads won by 6 points on a score of 1-09 to 0-06. Keep up the great work lads.
The club would like to congratulate our underage lads who represented the club at county level recently. To Ryan McGinty and his involvement at U-15 level and his participation at a blitz in Galway last weekend past. Well done Ryan. To Ryan Diver who was part of the Donegal team who won the Buncrana Cup last weekend past also at U-16 level when they defeated Tyrone in the Final. And finally to Cormac Callaghan who brought home an Ulster medal on Saturday evening past as part of the U-17 county team who won the Seamus Mc Guigan cup when they defeated Monaghan convincingly in the semi final and a much favoured Tyrone team in the final on a score of 2-10 to 1-06. It is great to see our youth progressing and making such positive impressions on the county stage. We are proud of you lads. The winning lotto numbers are 6,7,14,and 23.
