SHAY HOPEFUL OF A MOVE OR A CHANCE TO PROVE HIMSELF

Shay Given has admitted he is frustrated he is not playing first team football but he says he hopes he will get a chance to prove himself again.

Shay - still hopeful of a move.

Shay – still hopeful of a move.

The Lifford man, who is on a reported €70K a week at Aston Villa, still has three years left on his contract.

Villa are prepared to let him go but few clubs will pay such high money for a 37 year old.

Liverpool talked to the player but came nowhere near meeting his wage demands.

Given said he is keeping himself very fit and is ready if he gets the call – from whoever.

“Of course it’s just frustrating not playing, it’s hard to keep training and know there’s no game at the end of the week,” he said. “Things can change quickly in football with injuries and suspensions and if I get an opportunity I’ve got to be ready to take it if that hopefully comes along. I’m fit as a fiddle and feel really sharp. I’m just raring to get that chance.

“I played in Stiliyan Petrov’s testimonial in front of 60,000 fans at the weekend and as a player that’s all you want to do, to show people you’ve still got the ability to play in the Premier League.”
