The man entered the Majestic Casino on the town’s Port Road just before 11pm.

He produced a knife and then began shouting at staff that he wanted the money.

However staff refused to hand over any money and the man fled the scene on foot.

He ran up the street towards the Main Street area of the town empty-handed.

He is described as being more than 6ft tall and was wearing a navy-coloured jacket with a dark coloured scarf over his face with dark trousers.

Witnesses said he spoke with an Irish accent.

Nobody was hurt during the attempted raid which last only a couple of minutes.

Gardai in Letterkenny have appealed for anybody who may have witnessed the incident or saw the man running up the Port Road in the direction of the town’s Main Street to contact them.
