MADELEINE: PORTUGESE MEDIA SHUN STORY OF MISSING GIRL

suspectThe new Madeleine McCann appeal may have triggered headlines around the world but in Portugal the response has been muted, Sky News is reporting.

The station’s Europe correspondent Robert Nisbet says newspapers and TV channels in Portugal aren’t giving it the same coverage.

One man who lives near the apartment in Praia Da Luz, but didn’t want to be named, said it was “crazy” that the reconstruction is not airing prominently on Portuguese television.

Nisbet says Portugese people resent the perception that local police failed to  properly investigate the disappearance of Madeleine.

British police have issued photo e-fits of a German man they wish to question about the disappearance of Madeleine.

BBC1’s Crimewatch programme will air a reconstruction tonight at 9pm.
