DONEGAL GAA BOSSES IN FIRING LINE AFTER HURLING FINAL FIASCO

StEunansTHE Donegal County Board and its fixtures committee is under fire for “robbing” hurlers of the dream of playing in a county final – after a hard year’s work in training and in matches.

St Eunan’s and Setanta were due to play the final this Saturday at O’Donnell Park in Letterkenny.

The day was supposed to be a showpiece occasion for the best U-21 hurlers in the county.

St Eunan’s qualified for the final SEVEN WEEKS AGO.

St Eunan’s officials told the Board’s CCC committee they could play any weekend – except this one – because so many players have exams.

But the county board went ahead and fixed the game for Saturday at 2pm.

“Hurling in this county can be traced back to the 9th Century,” said one Setanta club member

“Attempts by clubs like St Eunan’s and Setanta to continue the revival of our greatest national sport here in Co Donegal have been frustrated by a stupid decision.”

St Eunan’s has expressed anger and frustration at the move.

There is a hope that the clubs can get around the red tape – if they can’t then Setanta will win the title without the swing of a hurl.
