MURRAY SLAMS DONEGAL JOBBRIDGE POSITIONS – WASHING CARS AT PETROL STATION

jack murraySINN Fein councillor Jack Murray has hit out at the latest Jobbridge positions advertised in Co Donegal – including three positions at a garage washing cars.

Sweeney’s Spar Express at Ballyraine in Letterkenny wants three people to take up the nine-month contracts.

An advert on the Jobbridge website says the successful candidates will get training in how to put petrol/diesel into cars.

They will also operate the site’s car wash system and stack shelves in the supermarket.

Whoever takes up the positions will be expected to work 38-hour weeks in return for €50 on top of their dole money.

Cllr Murray insisted: “I am opposed to the scheme in principle. Anyone who works for a week deserves to be paid for a week; as simple as that.

“However these latest positions show how the scheme is being used and I have to say I couldn’t believe it when I was told about this.

“The idea that someone would gain valuable life work skills on such a scheme is just ridiculous.

“It shows once again to anyone who thought this scheme was a good idea what a really bad idea it is.”
