TRADERS HOPING CHANCES OF LAST MINUTE SHOPPING RUSH WILL NOT BE ‘BLOWN’ TODAY

Traders across Donegal are hoping the weather does not blow away their chances of a last minute shopping rush today.wind_and_rain_strggling_with_umerella

With a relatively slow build-up to festive shopping due in part to poor weather, the public was out in force in shops across the county yesterday.

But shopkeepers are keeping their fingers crossed that an orange alert weather warning set for today will not keep shoppers at home.

The tills were ringing in the county’s main towns including Letterkenny, Donegal Town, Ballyshannon and Buncrana yesterday.

But traders are hoping for a last-minute spending spree to give them a good Christmas rather than just an average one.

In Letterkenny, traffic was very heavy in around the town with long tailbacks into Tesco and Dunnes Stores.

The footfall into the Letterkenny Retail Park was very strong with many shops including Evolve Menswear reporting brisk trade.

The town’s Main Street was also showing signs of a fightback with many shops reporting solid trading yesterday.

The local Chamber is asking people to be patient as traffic builds up during the last minute rush.
