DOLE CRASH SUSPECT STILL IN HOSPITAL COURT HEARS

A man who allegedly crashed a jeep into a pub and then a dole office could not appear in court yesterday because he is in hospital.

Joseph McGonigle, 40, was due to appear before Buncrana District Court today.

He is charged with drink driving and also two counts of dangerous driving on December 27th last at Ballymacarry Road, Buncrana.

The case relates to an incident in which thousands of euro in damage was caused to the Department of Social Protection at McCarter Road in Buncrana after it was struck by a four wheel drive vehicle.

Nobody was hurt during the incidents.

Garda Inspector David Murphy told the court they were waiting on directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions and said further charges may come before the court.

Solicitor Frank Dorrian said McGonigle may be in hospital for “some considerable time.”

Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case against McGonigle of Aught Road, Muff, until April.
