DONEGAL has another famous daughter – Hollywood actress Meryl Streep.

Genealogists say Streep descends from families who emigrated from Dunfanaghy 150 years ago.

The revelations come in the online magazine Irish Lives Remembered – in its January edition.

Reporter Fiona Fitzsimons say the star’s great-great grandparents on her mother’s side were Manus McFadden (born 1831) and his wife Grace Strain (born in 1842).

They married in Doe chapel in February 1864 and emigrated to America straight away, arriving in April 19, 1864, says Fitzsimons.

The magazine also delves into the rest of the family tree of the McFaddens and Strains.
