Cockhill Celtic 1 Clonmany Shamrocks 0

Clonmany started the brighter and Niall Mc Laughlin almost broke the deadlock after 2 mins when he broke on the left and flashed a shot across Cockhill’s goalmouth.

In a scrappy 1st half, chances were very few with neither team finding any good passages of play. Jazza Mc Laughlin had an effort after 20 snuffed out by Harkin in the Clonmany goal. Half time 0-0.

Cockhill introduced Liam O Donnell and Garbhan Friel at half time and the experienced duo made the difference in the 2nd half as Cockhill began to dominate.

Clonmany’s defence was almost breached after 60 mins when Peter Doherty’s long range effort narrowly missed the Clonmany goal. Mark Moran missed a gilt edged chance on 65 mins after a Gerry Gill cutback.

Derek Doherty should have scored when he hit the post from 6 yards with the goal at his mercy. Clonmany threatened on the counter on a few occasions but Cockhill finally broke the deadlock after 80 mins when Gerry Gill’s corner was met by Garbhan Friel’s head, the effort was cleared on the line but as the ball fell it was brilliantly finished by Friel when he acrobatically scored an overhead kick into the far top corner.

Clonmany threw everything at Cockhill in the last few minutes but couldn’t find an equaliser. Credit to Clonmany who pushed Cockhill all the way and gave as good as they got for long spells. 1-0 to Cockhill final score.
