Donegal female athletes dominated the podium positions in the ladies category of the Airtricity 10 mile road race held in Derry earlier today.

Clare McGuigan, from Lifford AC, took first place ahead of City of Derry Spartan Ann Paul with Evelyn McGinley, of Inishowen AC, in third spot.

The race was the final warm up event for the upcoming Walled City Marathon on 1 June.

Over 400 runners took to the start line for the 10 mile course which featured most of the 26.2 mile marathon route.

Foyle Valley’s Chris McGuinness produced a personal best time to win the men’s race.

The Derry runner broke the tape in 55 minutes 47 seconds to clinch first place ahead of Ciaran McGonagle, of the Rosses club in Donegal, who narrowly pipped Foyle Valley’s Pius McIntyre for second spot.

City of Derry Spartan Mark Mullan continued his impressive form to clinch fourth place.
