ELECTION 2014: CUTLIFFE SLAMS GOVERNMENTS POLICY ON RURAL SCHOOLS

Vice-chair of Donegal Education & Training Board, Peter Cutliffe has slammed the current FG/Labour government for its current policy of closing down/amalgamating smaller rural schools.  PETER CUTLIFFE

Peter Cutliffe, an Independent candidate in Letterkenny/Milford and Commissioner for Oaths, said that Donegal has the highest percentage of minority-denominational schools in the Country and, in his own personal opinion, the current Government policy of closing small schools will most affect these schools.

Cutliffe told Donegal Daily, “This is another example of current government sucking the life out of rural areas like Kilmacrennan, Fanad, Downings and I personally believe people need to take a stand against this policy and vote against current Government policy on Friday May 23rd.

“This policy of closing down rural -schools along with current government policy of closing down post-offices is destroying that social -fabric of our communities unless people speak out.

“Only last week I asked our local FG/Labour candidates to clarify their position on the proposed water-rates charges and now I am asking these candidates to state their position and proposed solution to school closures in Donegal.
