LETTERKENNY ROVERS ERIC WHITE APPEARS ON SOCCER REPUBLIC

Letterkenny Rovers clubman Eric White, appeared on RTE’s Soccer Republic show last night to discuss the controversial sacking of Roddy Collins.   Eric White 1

The popular Letterkenny man has his finger on the pulse when it comes to all the major soccer issues in the North West, and it was White who broke the news on Sunday that Collins had been sacked.

White, who works for BBC Radio Foyle, told Soccer Republic presenter Peter Collins that an amicable meeting took place between Collins and the Derry City board, and that the meeting was reported to have lasted for around twenty minutes.

White also said Peter Hutton and Marty McCann had taken first-team training yesterday morning, but said former Harps manager Paul Hegarty and Institute manager Paul Kee have been linked with the job.

White added that Peter Hutton will take temporary charge of the side for this weekend, and he may stay on as a caretaker manager until the end of the season.

Collins was dismissed from his position as manager on Sunday following a string of poor results at the Brandywell.

Collins won just two out of 12 league matches, which led Derry City supporters to turn against the flamboyant Dubliner.

His short tenure as manager was not without incident, with public fall-outs with star striker Rory Patterson and defender Shane McEleney well documented.

However, a dispute between him and assistant manager Peter Hutton was said to be final straw for the Derry City board, who moved swiftly to part company with Collins.
